You see, I understand how terrifying it can be to have a child with incredible potential and know in the still, small places my soul that my decisions would impact the rest of his life.  I remember waking up in a cold sweat with the questions roaring through my brain.

I knew my choices would affect the quality of his high school education, the college he got into, the type of job he would be qualified for, basically the rest of his life.  Pretty scary stuff.

As a Youth Development Specialist, I had worked with students for a decade to master personal and leadership skill sets they needed to become capable, contributing citizens. I spent years honing techniques to help them compete for great scholarships.

Then I left my career because my small children needed me. Not only that, I took their education into my own hands. No teachers to handle the tough subjects, no guidance counselor to help chart the course. I could no longer blame the school system if they didn’t get into a great college. And how do you get into a good school, anyway?

I began reading, asking questions, praying, and reading some more. I marshaled all my experience from my professional years; my background as a multiple scholarship and award winner, which included the Truman Scholarship; my love for a great story as a writer, and the determination of a mother with big dreams for her kids. Aiming Higher Consultants was born when other families saw our success and began asking for help.

As an online college consulting service, we seek to understand the heart of each individual student and help them effectively tell their story to busy college admissions officers.

I have found that each student has an incredible story worth telling, but they often don’t know how to do it. I take them step by step through the college application, the college essay, and prepare them for interviews. I serve as a support system to parents who are stressing about all the forms and deadlines.

Aiming Higher Consultants is a college consulting firm dedicated to helping Christian students gain admission to great colleges.  

Our goal is to empower families to confidently navigate the difficult college application process by providing as much or as little assistance as is needed. We can provide help in the following areas:

Comprehensive High School Plan:  If you come to us early, we can help you develop a holistic plan for each student.  Taking into account developmental and academic goals, we help you explore potential academic options, leadership, extracurricular activities, volunteer service, and work opportunities.

College Options:  We work with students to help them decide which institutions best meet their academic and personal needs.

Marketing Strategy: Applying will be much easier and more likely to succeed with an overall strategy for how to present your student to the college through the various parts of the application process. We help you identify student strengths, account for weaknesses, and weave it all into a powerful combination that can compete successfully at the top colleges.

School Documents: While a homeschooling education provides many advantages, the downside is that you will be responsible for documents that are normally provided by a high school, such as transcripts, school profiles, and counselor letters. Aiming Higher Consultants takes the guesswork out of this part of the college application process.  We will help you craft neat, clear documents that will serve you well in applying to colleges and scholarship programs.

Resumes: While not always needed for the actual application process, resumes are useful for scholarship applications and college interviews. We will help you condense the high school experience into an effective marketing tool.

Recommendations: Most applicants shortchange themselves by not taking full advantage of recommendations. We give you advice on how to pick and work with a recommender to get the maximum value from the letter of recommendation. If you desire, we will also work directly with the recommender to help them address important components of your overall marketing strategy.

Essays: The college essay is one of the most important parts of the application. We help you think through essay topics and give your student advice as they craft their essays into final form.

Applications: We review all application materials to make sure that they effectively present your student's candidacy.

Interviews: Through advice and practice interviews over the phone, we help your student develop “talking points,” cultivate the right appearance, and hone interview skills so they can approach the most dreaded part of the application process with confidence.

While most college consulting firms charge you thousands up front, we know that’s not realistic for most families.  And, we think you should be in charge of deciding what you need.  While you will have better success letting us deal with all parts of the college application process, we give you the freedom to pick and choose what services you want from us.  Perhaps you just want help with the college essay.  Maybe you just want us to walk you through the National Merit application.  Whatever it is, we are delighted to help.

For that reason, we offer our services on a 3-hour retainer.  That way, you stay in charge of the amount you spend. Most families will use between 8-20 hours of time, depending on how much they desire to do themselves.
