Regardless of our age, the choices we make today govern the opportunities we will have available to us in the future.
Do we accept that difficult new project at work that will require us to learn a new programming language or do we fall back to the old and familiar?
Do we undertake that volunteer assignment that makes us nervous in a different area or do we insist on doing the same thing we did last year?
Do we risk taking that grueling AP class or settle for the regular high school science course that all our friends chose because of the easy A?
Do we accept the possibility of failing publicly by stepping up to fill a need in our community or do we hide in a pretend video game world?
Each day provides us with opportunities for either growth or stagnation. Growth is often painful, at least initially. Stagnation is comfortable, at least for a while.
It is in the risking that we learn what we are made of, where we discover our possibilities. And, when new possibilities emerge, our world expands exponentially. New careers are now options. More selective schools are within range. Our choices, much more than our innate talent, will shape all our tomorrows.
